Hi, I’m Bastian — online, Fokuspunk.

I’m Bastian Machek, a photographer and free-software developer in the Landshut area of southern Germany. You may have found me as Fokuspunk through photography, as bmachek on GitHub, or through one of my Lightroom plugins. Those are all me.

“Doing stuff with cameras and computers” is the short version. The longer version is a collection of projects that connect the things I enjoy: taking photographs, building tools, and experimenting with what software can do.

Photography meets software

I photograph with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II and a collection of wide-angle, standard, macro and telephoto lenses. My gear page lists the equipment and software I use; my photographs are at fokuspunk.de and on Instagram as @fokuspunk.

The software side reaches into that same workflow. Lightroom Classic is where I organise and process photographs. My projects extend what happens around the catalog: describing pictures, finding them again, keeping a self-hosted photo library in sync, and delivering galleries.

Projects and my role in them

I’m the creator and lead developer of LrGeniusAI, developed under the LrGenius organisation. It brings AI tagging, image descriptions and natural-language search to Lightroom Classic, alongside face recognition and on-device species identification. It supports built-in local AI as well as cloud models. The plugin uses Lua, with a local Rust backend.

The Lightroom Immich Plugin connects Lightroom Classic to Immich for export, publishing and import workflows. I also wrote the initial implementation of the Lightroom PicPeak Plugin, now hosted under the PicPeak organisation. Its current workflow includes bringing client selections back to matching RAW files.

social-mcp connects a self-hosted publishing workflow to an AI assistant, with tools for Instagram and Facebook Pages, scheduling and analytics.

My newer project, MoodSwings — Die Stadt der Flummis, heads in a different direction: an open-world comedy game built in Rust and Bevy. Its residents bounce, react to provocation, and catch each other’s moods. The Landshüpf variant uses real map data from Landshut.

A personal reason to build CIDP Buddy

I’m married and a father. I also live with CIDP — Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, a rare autoimmune nerve disease.

That experience is behind CIDP Buddy. I built the app to help organise infusions, medication, supplies and schedules, with a diary for vitals and symptoms. It is a practical project rooted in my own day-to-day life.
